The power of a Chrome plugin
Innovation Spotlight: JJ's Chrome Plugin for Skill Data
What’s your background and why did you join TechWolf?
I always wanted to be an inventor. I started by learning to build smartphone applications when I was a teenager, which got me into programming. I joined TechWolf three years ago, after graduating from the University of Ghent in Computer Science Engineering, specialising in AI. During my studies, I completed an internship at TechWolf, which solidified my interest in research and the power of AI.
This realisation led me to combine my PhD studies with a full-time role at TechWolf, where I currently serve as the Lead Researcher. What I enjoy most about TechWolf is the opportunity to be part of a highly ambitious team, on a journey to building something truly innovative, with AI at its heart.
Can you tell us more about the Chrome plugin?
TechWolf’s Skill Engine API infers skills from different kinds of data. As our customers integrate our API with their own systems, there’s limited visibility internally on how our product works.
This is why I decided to build a Chrome plugin that increases the internal visibility of our product. Colleagues can go on their own LinkedIn profile, where the different data visible such as previous job titles or experience is sent to TechWolf’s own system where their skills are inferred and sent back to them.
This is a very simple, intuitive integration and visual aid to see how TechWolf’s product works. Additionally, it helps our team to get a better view of their own or other colleagues’ skills.
What’s next?
For now, this is just a demo but we are thinking about extending it further. A good example of this is our recent extension to JIRA, where for each ticket, the skills required to execute it are shown.
Additionally, the plugin helps to detect blind spots that can actually lead to minor improvements in the product itself.
